The World of Blood Secrets
The world of Blood Secrets is superficially similar to our own, but is one which grew out of a more ancient predecessor, where magic roamed free. While this magical world has been mostly subsumed by its modern successor, some traces remain.
At the current time, the bulk population are largely unaware of the existence of magical forces, and have no power over them. However, certain creatures have overcome this limitation and merged modern and magical realms.
These are the Vampires and the Lycanthropes. Both of these types of creature are the progeny of Lilith, a female who predates the split between mundane and magical worlds. Her progeny with humans became the Vampires, and with beasts became the Lycanthropes. Both these types of creature are able to channel magical forces in the mundane world.
However, there is a third source of magical power; the Sorcerers. These were born normal humans, but by subsuming the essence of a Vampire, Lycanthrope or other Sorcerer gained the same ability to channel magical forces.
At the current time, the general public is unaware of any of these forces. Further, there is no set political status quo between them. Some Sorcerers hunt the Vampires and/or Lycanthropes, as a member of some institution or for their own reasons; others try to stay away from them, or even cooperate with them. The Vampires and Lycanthropes, for their parts, could not be generally said to be directly opposed to any faction; while factions within both groups believe in superiority, others seek to help the humans or ignore them. Indeed, the two groups are far more interested in their own inter-faction contests.
Thus we have a world of Vampires, Lycanthropes and Sorcerers, all working for their own gain, some against each other, some with each other, and all out of sight of the general population. Whether the status quo will shift, who is to say...
